JONESVILLE, Va. - Charles D. Ridings, of the Sandy Ridge community of Jonesville, Va., was born in the Pucketts Creek community of Pennington Gap, Va., on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1952 and passed away on Friday (Jan. 7, 2005) at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap at the age of 52 years.
A lifelong resident of Lee County, he was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA.
Charles was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church of Jonesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Daniel (Snook) and Bernice Parsons Ridings; one brother, Dickie Ridings; and mother-in-law, Beulah Harris.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Harris Ridings of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Nicole Davis and husband, Paul of Jonesville; one granddaughter, Mackenzie Davis; four brothers, Bill Ridings, Eddie Ridings and Rick Ridings, all of Jonesville, and Wayne Ridings of St. Charles, Va.; three sisters, Barbara Tester and Hazel Tester, both of Dayton, Ohio, and Patsy Brooks of Jonesville; sister-in-law, Margaret Harris of the home; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. today from the sanctuary of Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap with Paul Davis, Jr. and Bo Cope officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bowling Cemetery in Jonesville. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go to the cemetery.
