- Hassie L. Mayes, age 88, of speedwell passed away October 19, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents Byrd and Kate (Parrott) Price; former husband Carl Mayes; brother: J.B. Price; sister & brother-in-law: Nola & Lonnie Smith; brother-in-law, Hubert Marsee; and half sisters, Maggie Fortner and Helen Turner. Survivors: Sons: Roy (& Martha) Mayes, Speedwell, Tn., Gary Mayes, Speedwell, Tn.; Daughter: Marlene Mayes Sowder, Speedwell, Tn.; Sister: Mary Marsee, Speedwell, Tn.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Price, Speedwell, TN.; Six grandchildren, Richard L. (& Lynda) Mayes, North Augusta, SC, Laura Suzanne Mayes, Columbia, SC, William Daniel (& Shannon) Mayes, Aiken, SC, Robbie (& Sonya) Proffitt, Knoxville, TN,, Russell Compton, West Chester, Oh, Roland Compton, Milford, Oh; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, Nieces, nephews, and family and friends. Funeral services were at Reece Valley Chapel. Graveside service held Wednesday in the Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers- Daniel Mayes, Richard Mayes, Robbie Proffitt, Roland Compton, Donald Mayes and Wayne Mayes.
