  	James Alexandar Pickle was born June 11, 1908 in Smyth County, Groseclose, VA. He was the 4th child of six children, born to Charles Wiley & Dona Theodosia Yonts Pickle. He came to his Uncle John Yonts of rural Moorhead, when he was about 19 years old, because he didn't want to be a "gandy dancer" on the railroads. He met Irene Berg while she was teaching at the Sunny Slope School in Sec. 25 of Spring Valley Twp., that John Yonts children attended. They were married on February 28, 1934. They had one child, Jerald Alan Pickle born March 12, 1936 at Ute, Iowa. Through the years, Jim and Irene farmed near near Soldier, Pisgah, and the Soldier Country Church. Then they farmed the Perrin Farm on the Soldier River in Spring Valley Twp. for about 30 years.
