  	"Newt W. Ashurst, well known and respected Somerset citizen, died late Thursday afternoon at his home on East Mt. Vernon Street. He had been in declining health for four years but death was due to bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Ashurst, the son of Craig and Mary Ridings Ashurst, was born two miles east of Somerset April 17, 1870. He was educated in the county schools and for many years engaged in farming. He had been a loyal member of the Methodist Church for 40 years, and led an exemplary life. Mr. Ashurst and Miss Lucy Jones were married in May 1898. To this union was born one daughter, Miss Coloda Ashurst. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen, and was interested in every movement contributing to the development of the community and the welfare of her citizens. Mr. Ashurst was a devoted husband and father. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at his residence, Dr. Floyd D. Rose officiating. Burial was in the City Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucy Ashurst, daughter, Miss Coloda Ashurst, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Webb, of Pulaski County." From The Commonwealth, Somerset, Kentucky- Wednesday, April 2, 1947.
