| 4803 | WOODVILLE - Mary Frances Hanna Bates, 86, long-time resident of Kerrville, passed from this life on Thursday, July 20, 2006, in Woodville, Texas, at a care center. Born in Paris, Texas, she spent most of her childhood years in North Texas, and then later the Rio Grande Valley. She graduated from Rio Hondo High School and attended college at Kilgore Junior College. She married Russell Richmon Bates in 1939. Her career included employment with Sears Roebuck and Co. in both Harlingen, Texas, and Kerrville, Texas, as well as Chas. Schreiner Bank. She was manager of Sears Catalog Sales office in Kerrville for a number of years. She was an active member of the Kerrville Church of Christ for many years, and also with the Livingston Church of Christ in later years. She enjoyed doing volunteer services for the Medina Children's Home, making visits and telephone calls, sewing, baking and traveling. She was preceded in death by Russell Bates, to whom she was married 43 years. She is survived by three children, Belva Bellcock of Searcy, Ark., Garon Bates of Livingston, Texas, and Loretta Derrick of League City, Texas; brother, James E. Hanna of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Elizabeth Sottosanti of Kerrville, Texas, and Margaret Clark of Midlothian, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, along with a host of loving friends and neighbors. She was dearly loved by both sides of the extended family. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Kerrville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, in the Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home, with interment following at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville. | 4808 | ZAVALLA - Services for Bernice Hale Culver, 73, of Zavalla were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 1995, at the Lakewood Baptist Church in Zavalla with Pastor Lyle Hern officiating. Burial followed in the Zavalla City Cemetery in Zavalla. Mrs. Culver died Jan. 9 at Angelina Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lufkin. A native of Wheeler, TX, she lived in Leesville, LA before moving to Zavalla 19 years ago and was a retired budget analyst for the Federal Civil Service Department of the Army in Fort Polk, LA. Survivors include her husband, Vernon Culver, Sr., of Zavalla; daughter, Frances Linthicum of Houston; two sons, Vernon Culver, Jr., of Zavalla and Lee Culver of Sour Lake; and three sisters, Ethel Howell of Midland, Baylor Blair of Hot Springs Village, AR, and Margie Peyton of Chandler; one brother, Robert Hale of Chandler; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. | 4810 | ZORA HOWELL (1908-1998) Zora B. Howell Plummer, 90, of Portsmouth, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at a Russell, Ky., hospital. She was born March 21, 1908, in Lewis County, Ky., a daughter of the late Henry Howell and Rachael Kegley Howell. She was retired from the former Williams Manufacturing Company, was a member of Cedar Street Church of Christ in Christian Union of New Boston, and a member of Eagles Lodge of New Boston and Moose Lodge of Portsmouth. Surviving are one son, William Plummer of Portsmouth; one daughter, Ruth Arrowood of Portsmouth; one brother, Fred Howell of Portsmouth; one sister, Blanche Leonard of Freemont; 23 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Don and John Plummer; five brothers and one sister. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., with the Rev. Quentin King officiating, and interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
