She and Marena would take a mother/daughter trip each summer. Her most favorite trip was the trip they took to Paris, France, but she also loved going to Hawaii, Acapulco, Montreal, the Grand Tetons, British Columbia, and many of the United States. Another memorable trip was one she took driving across the country.

After she retired, Lola spent summers in Binghamton and winters at Leisure World, a retirement community, in Mesa, AZ. There she enjoyed golfing, walking, the companionship of many good friends, and many cultural activities. She had a fantastic sense of humor and lived life to the fullest! 4023 Lucille Tregoning, age 79, went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2017, in Hagerstown, Md.

Lucille was born on February 1, 1938 in Goins, TN (she was a twin).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Curtis Tolliver and Mafalda Alena Tolliver. She had six sisters and one brother. She was preceded in death by her brother, Matthew Newton Tolliver; sisters, Lillie England, Annie Widner, Betty Myers, Louise England (her twin), and Maudie Cochrum. Lucille loved her siblings and parents more than can be explained.

Lucille is survived by her loving husband, Jim Tregoning. They were married over thirty years. They lived together in Falling Waters, WV. Over their lifetime together, they loved to travel to the beach, spend time with their family, and enjoy all that life had to offer. She also enjoyed spending the day with her dog Coco who brought much joy to both her and Jim. Jim was the most caring husband. When Lucille became ill, Jim took the best care of her. He did everything for her. She loved him very much and appreciated every little thing that he would do for her.

Lucille also raised her four daughters with much love and discipline. She always made sure her daughters were taken care of even if she had to do without. Even as her daughters became adults, she remained that loving, guiding influence that help direct them with their own lives. To her, family was very important and she was also there for each and every one of them. Lucille has many nieces and nephews that she held dear to her. Not a day went by that she didn’t think of them fondly and enjoyed talking to them on the phone.

Lucille was a very outgoing person. She never met a stranger. She loved to tell jokes and reminisce about the past. She was also a very giving person. If she heard someone had a need, she was the first to try her best to help them out. Her two favorite charities were St. Jude’s and Wounded Warrior. She always felt you needed to give to those who needed it the most. She just loved life and people, but her first love was always God. She had the strongest faith and had no doubt about her life after this one.

The family wants to thank all those who loved this woman (and it was many). We want to give a special thanks to all her caregivers Dr. Waheed (Western Maryland and Meritus Hospitals). They did everything they could to help her during a very tough journey and we can never repay the love and care she received.

While in Roanoke, Lydia received stellar health care from professionals at Lewis Gale Physicians and Lewis Gale Hospital, to whom the Slusher family extends sincere thanks. The family offers a special thank you to Dr. David Iglesais and his wonderful staff at Carilion Clinic for Geriatric Oncology for their compassionate care that helped Lydia enjoy her last three years of life. Also, a special thank you to the caring staff at Berkshire Nursing and Rehabilitation in Vinton, VA, for their care over the last month of Lydia's life. And, lastly, another special thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice, Roanoke, for helping navigate her care at the end of life and keeping her comfortable.

4085 Mitchell M. Murch, 86, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014.

He was the beloved husband for 64 blessed years to Elaine Ing Murch; dearest father of Barbara (Stuart) Elmore, Melissa (George) Kriegshauser, Tim (Becky), Betsy (Jeff) Osterloh and Mitchell M. (the late Cathy) Murch II; dear papa to Andrew (Dr. Morgan) and Patrick Elmore, Kelly (Dr. Rajiv) Patel, George W. (Lindsey) Kriegshauser, Connor, Max and Colle Murch, Parker and Clayton Osterloh, and the late Mitchell M. III and Mary Claire Murch; dear great-papa to Devan and Isaac Patel, and George L. Kriegshauser; our dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Mitch was a one-in-a-million type of guy who left a positive impression on every person or endeavor he ever touched. Mitch’s life was a wild ride, and while not easy, he made it fun. Along the way, he amassed thousands of friends and admirers.

Mitch poured his love, energy and passion into the businesses he created, trade organizations that he co-founded, Mizzou Alumni, The Buddy Fund, The Guadalupe Center and dozens of additional organizations, boards of directors and philanthropies that he was very proud to help.

Becoming a lifelong entrepreneur out of necessity following his mother’s death when he was 12, Mitch eventually became a pioneer in the building services contracting industry and became one of the world’s most successful janitors.

A proud Kappa Sigma member and former president of District 17, Mitch was awarded a faculty-alumni award in 1968, the 1976 Greek Week Alumni Award and the Distinguished Service Award and was president of the St. Louis alumni chapter. An added result of Mitch’s dedication to the university is that all five of his children and almost all of his grandchildren are now proud alumni.

Mitch furthered his impact on Columbia by building what the local press would eventually name “Mitch Murch’s Financially Troubled Ice Chalet” in the midst of an energy crisis and ensuing economic downturn. The building hosted the Mizzou Hockey Club from 1975 to 1982, as well as appearances by The Charlie Daniels Band, Styx, REO Speedwagon and other hitmakers of the time.

However, Mitch was most proud of his family. It is truly what he loved the most, and he created countless wonderful memories for his kids, grandkids and their friends on athletic fields, on horseback, on lakes, in streams, and in Jeeps and stadiums, and over the occasional Budweiser. All the while, though, Mitch gave credit to Elaine, his wife of 64 blessed years, for raising the kids and making them the people they are.

We could try to do this obituary justice, but condensing Mitch’s life, accomplishments, passions, energy, enthusiasm, humor, gratitude, philanthropy, spirit and fire into a few inches of newsprint just isn’t possible.

As a matter of fact, Mitch left 17 pages of typed, single-spaced instructions on what to do in the event that he might one day pass. With such a long list of passions, accomplishments and countless wonderful, funny stories, we encourage you to put on your loudest plaid clothing and join us at a celebration of Mitch’s life with the details outlined below.

A memorial celebration of Mitch’s life will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac Ballroom, 1335 S. Lindbergh (at Clayton Road). A tribute will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Memorials to the Buddy Fund, 2827 Clark Ave., St. Louis, Mo., 63103 (www.buddyfund.org), or the Guadalupe Center, 509 Hope Circle, Immokalee, 34142 (www.guadalupecenter.org) are appreciated.

DEATH-DEALING LIGHTNING
A Home Rendered Forever Unhappy
A Mother and Little Son Instantly Killed
At Williamsburg, last Wednesday morning, just about the time the clock in the court house tower was tolling the hour of 10 o'clock and at a moment that a very dark cloud was rising and the elements all around were threatening, there suddenly came a gleaming flash of lightning, a keen and deafening report of thunder rang out upon the quiet breezes of the usual quiet little city, and all that was mortal of Mrs. Cortez Brown and her six-year-old son, Cortez, lay limp and cold in death, and near them lay the almost lifeless body of little Robert, aged four.
The circumstances of the terrible tragedy were almost these.
Upon seeing the approach of the threatening cloud Mrs. Brown, with her two children, went out to the wash place for some purpose, and while there the lightning struck a tree nearby, instantly killing her and her little son and so shocking the other little boy as to leave his recovery doubtful for quite a while, but in a few hours he came to and so recovered as to be able to walk around, but not able to give any intelligent account of the awful calamity, which swept from him in the twinkling of an eye, his beloved mother and little brother.
No one saw the accident, but from all indications the mother had her sated(sic?) little boy in her arms and sheltered by an umbrella, while the other little fellow was a few feet away.
The remains of the mother and son were brought to London yesterday morning, and yesterday evening laid to rest in the private burying ground of Mr. J. T. Brown, brother of the bereaved husband.
Mrs. Brown was the daughter of Mr. W. M. Hale, of the western portion of this county, and one of our ablest and best citizens, and she was one of the most industrious, kind hearted and sweetest tempered women we ever knew, and her untimely death is deplored by all, and leaves a vacancy in the family that can never be filled.
She leaves a husband and four children to mourn her death.
